Role of Lens Extraction in the Treatment of Glaucoma

Recent evidence suggests that lens extraction is a very effective treatment in angle closure Glaucoma. There is also a very modest decrease in pressure in open angle glaucoma patients. Traditional surgery like trabeculectomy accelerates cataract formation anyway. So if cataract surgery can be combined with other IOP lowering surgery then more complex glaucoma surgery can be avoided in some patients.Considerations and complexities of cataract surgery in Glaucoma patients will also be discussed.
